這首歌是電影《這個殺手不太冷》(Leon-The Professional)的主題曲。紐約貧民區住著一個義大利人，名叫萊昂(Leon)，職業殺手。一天，鄰居家小姑娘馬蒂爾達(Mathilda)敲開他的房門，要求在他這里暫避殺身之禍。原來，鄰居家的主人是警察的眼線，只因貪污了一小包毒品而遭惡警剿滅全家的懲罰。馬蒂爾達得到萊昂的留救，開始幫萊昂管家並教其識字，萊昂則教女孩用槍，兩人相處融洽。女孩跟蹤惡警，貿然去報仇，反倒被抓。萊昂及時趕到，將女孩救回。他們再次搬家，但女孩還是落入惡警之手。萊昂撂倒一片警察，再次救出女孩並讓她通過通風管道逃生，並囑咐她去把他積攢的錢取出來。萊昂化裝成警察想混出包圍圈，但被惡警識破。最後一刻，萊昂引爆了身上的炸彈與警察同歸於盡。留下馬蒂爾達和他曾經最喜歡的那株沒有根的植物。
第一次聽這首歌的時候，還沒有看過這部電影，耳畔回響著歌手那有點低沉的聲音，不知道為什麼，心被揪得緊緊的。於是把這部電影找來看。歌曲就是Leon的內心獨白。一個職業殺手，生活在自己的世界裡。曾經有過刻骨銘心的愛，可在永遠失去愛人後，開始了一個人的旅程。不知道他為什麼選擇殺手這條路，但可以知道的是，不是因為權利，不是因為金錢。或許殺手可以讓自己不再陷入愛中。對於殺手，愛只是個包袱。他習慣獨來獨往，一個人去超市，一個人喝牛奶，一個人坐在椅子上，睜著一隻眼睛睡覺，無牽無掛。可是，在他為馬蒂爾達開門的那一刻，一切都變了。他開始漸漸看清自己的心……馬蒂爾達說她愛上他了，他明白自己的心，只是他不敢。一個殺手，永遠只有今天，沒有明天。可最後，他還是可以面對自己的內心，馬蒂爾達改變了他，"你讓我嘗到了人生的滋味，我開始想要過得快樂，睡在床上，有牽掛……"
其實我到最後也不明白，他對馬蒂爾達究竟是什麼樣的感情，父親、朋友、情人……不過這些都不重要，不管是哪一種愛，都出自內心最深處。就像歌直到最後，也沒有說出究竟什麼才是心的形狀。不過我們知道，我們每個人都應該知道……
