◎劇情:

19世紀初，北極圈內:Archibald Witwicky船長(維特維奇家族的先祖)在一次災難中隨著巨大的冰塊落入深淵，落到了埋藏在冰層之下的一個機器人手掌上。船長醒來後發現機器人的眼睛正注視著他。而這台機器人正是很久以前離開塞伯坦，前往地球尋找火種源(Allspark)的威震天(Megatron)……
威震天將揭示火種源下落的地圖燒刻在船長的眼鏡上。眼鏡作為船長的遺物一代一代地傳到了山姆(Shia LaBeout飾演)的手裡……
現代社會：
中東卡達的某個美國空軍基地遭到了狂派戰士眩暈(Blackout)，他將這個基地完全毀掉，而且還從一台計算機里獲得了大量信息。此外，眩暈還釋放了巨蠍怪\薩克巨人(Scorponok)去追殺Lennox上尉和他的特別行動小隊。Lennox上尉與五角大樓取得了聯系，美國軍方派遣一架戰斗機暫時打退了狂派的小規模進攻。
山姆·維特維奇(Sam Witwicky)從汽車代理商手裡買到了他的第一輛車，而這輛車恰恰是博派的大黃蜂(Bumblebee)。大黃蜂幫助山姆贏得了Mikaela的芳心。博派前來尋找Archibald 老船長的眼鏡，他們被迫躲藏在山姆家的後院，因為凶惡的第七防區(Sector 7)的特工突然闖進了山姆的家……
影片將會採用五條故事線平行推進，最終匯總的形式。在影片的結尾會有一場博派領袖擎天柱(Optimus Prime)與狂派首領威震天的驚天大戰。他們將從胡佛大壩一直殺到洛杉磯……

為了追尋能量塊，威震天來到了地球，在北極，他受到磁場的強干擾，意外被封凍於冰層之下。藉助不慎跌入冰谷的科學家，威震天將有關能量塊的信息掃描到科學家的眼鏡上。威震天被美國軍方秘密轉移到位於胡佛大壩地下的秘密基地，這個秘密只有歷任國防部長組成的7人軍事小組知道。

「霸天虎」的先遣部隊旋風和毒蠍襲擊了美軍位於卡達的軍事基地，變形金剛的再次出現引起了現任國防部長的警覺，他組織一批年輕的電腦高手開始搜尋「霸天虎」的行蹤。與此同時，路障幫助他的搭檔迷亂潛入了美國總統的座機空中一號，通過電腦獲悉，要想找到威震天就必須找到維特威基家族的那副眼鏡，而它現在的擁有者山姆由此成為了「霸天虎」攻擊的目標。

山姆是一個生活並不如意的高中生，學校里沒有人相信他講述的關於這副眼鏡的歷史，失望之餘，山姆把眼鏡放到網上拍賣，然而從未引起買家的興趣。這時父親送了一輛破舊不堪的汽車給他，這輛車恰好就是「汽車人」大黃蜂的變形。載著山姆的大黃蜂幫助山姆交上了漂亮的女朋友，但很快就遭遇了「霸天虎」的襲擊，擎天柱帶著其他「汽車人」趕到，一場機器人大戰由此拉開了序幕。

擎天柱告訴山姆，邪惡的威震天企圖藉助能量塊的輻射能把地球上所有的東西都變成「霸天虎」部隊的一員，由此打敗「汽車人」，進而統治整個宇宙，而毀掉能量塊的唯一辦法就是將它插入兩派變形金剛首領的心臟。作為堅決捍衛宇宙和平的汽車人的首領，擎天柱已經做好犧牲自己的准備。

狡猾的迷亂變成了山姆女友的手機，進入了胡佛大壩下面的秘密基地，在釋放威震天的同時，也將這個情報發送回「霸天虎」的總部。紅蜘蛛於是帶著其他的「霸天虎」成員吵鬧、襲擊、路障、旋風等迅速趕往胡佛大壩，與威震天會合。緊要關頭，大黃蜂也向擎天柱發出增援的信息，爵士、鐵皮、救護車在擎天柱的帶領下，准備與「霸天虎」展開一場大戰。

在人類軍隊的配合下，山姆在千鈞一發的關頭將能量塊插入了威震天的心臟，而爵士卻在這場戰役中不幸犧牲，山姆的好朋友大黃蜂也被重創。威震天的機械軀體被沉入海底，破損的能量塊也回到了擎天柱的手中，然而故事卻沒有結束，臨陣脫逃的紅蜘蛛飛回了塞伯坦星球，他將和其他「霸天虎」重新集結，伺機重新殺回地球，與「汽車人」再戰一場。
