這部關於GAY題材的電影，影片剛開始，陰霾的天氣就呈現給人壓抑的感覺，男主角也多次提到溺這個詞。他深陷掙扎與苦悶中，急欲逃脫迴避這種心境，從他排斥自己異於別人的卷發可以影射出他是實際是急需脫離這種他認為是世俗異類的情感困境。

我覺得「不戴花」就是表達一種叛道離經的意思吧。男孩子之間的愛也稱少年愛，就是俗稱的BL。

《花》的主角出走到巴黎，輕易與許多男子有露水姻緣、不以任何婚戀關系為前提便愛上一個初次見面就強奸了自己的男人，被罵作婊子也在所不惜。說婁燁那些愛情故事極端，只是因為他感興趣的對象不是大多數，但並非他不熟悉的群體，看過張獻民寫呂樂性史的人，也許會明白「花」做的那些事情，對婁燁和他的一些同路人是某種共同回憶，也不值得用一般的道德語言來評判，對「花」和Mathieu以及片中任何一個用性徵服對方、又用愛折損對方的人，影片只是一點一滴地描寫，個中的痛苦之源與結局也並沒有定論。只負責描述，不負責表態，是一種方法，但也讓《花》和「花」難以親近觀眾。僅僅從「花」的教授發表對女權的看法、客串演出的崔衛平在采訪中說「我是一個『持不同生活見解者』」，隱約暗示著這個女人的自我定位，但對觀眾來說，這些細節還不足以解釋她在性和愛上一些自相矛盾的態度，比如她從北京逃到巴黎的原因，無法接受白人男友不再愛她卻又立刻迷戀上另一個男人肉體。也是因為動機模糊，「花」為什麼會樂於周旋於各個男人之間，性為何對她有如此強烈的驅動，為何在結尾性與愛不可分離的時候她又決定離開，這些問題都讓人不易代入她的世界。
