《吻别》创作背景：

殷文琦创作《吻别》的初衷来自电影《末代皇帝》。

1988年，《末代皇帝》获得第60届奥斯卡最佳影片、最佳导演、最佳原始音乐等奖项，而获得最佳音乐奖项的是为此片配乐的日本音乐家坂本龙一，殷文琦很崇拜坂本龙一，对其在电影故事情节中穿插配乐的表现形式很感兴趣。

于是，殷文琦就想用自己的方式创作有中国特色的电影配乐，然后按自己的音乐理念融入了大量中国传统器乐作了一首分为四个章节的曲子，也就是《吻别》曲子的前身。

1993年，正在宝丽金任职的殷文琦正好为张学友担任制作，他就把这个当初为电影而作的配乐重新编写，最终完成了《吻别》的曲子。
